How To Celebrate 4th of July Safely!

By News Jun 29, 2020 | 12:47 PM

COVID 19 has put a pause on so much of what we’ve taken for granted in the summer time, but that doesn’t mean that the 4th of July weekend has to be ruined! Here are some silver-linings and ways to make the most of your Independence Day celebrations safely!

Silver-Lining: Is it really that bad if you don’t see the entire family?

Uncle Don having too many beers and telling inappropriate jokes, Uncle Merv shouting his political manifesto to everyone, non-stop questions about when you’ll start dating or get married or have a baby…One 4th of July weekend away from all of that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.

Now you have the perfect excuse to take a break from the fam.

Alternative: Learn about American history

Whether it’s picking up a book for a relaxing read outside, or binge watching the John Adams miniseries, it is more important now that ever before that we all know our own history of how we got here…or that history may just repeat itself, as they say.

Bonus – Next year you can stump Uncle Merv in his place with all the new Independence Day facts you’ve acquired!

Silver-Lining: You don’t have to pretend to enjoy fireworks

We all love fireworks at some point in our lives, but let’s be honest – some of us get tired of the two weeks of non-stop bangs, booms and sizzles flying by our homes and driving the pets crazy.  With everyone staying at home this year there will probably be more local fireworks than ever before, but you could use this as an excuse to get out of them for a year if you wanted to.

Plus, with all the health risks we’re already facing, not handling explosives may just be one less thing to worry about.

Alternative: Turn that backyard into some fun!

Set up the grill for a family BBQ, set up the tents and do some ‘faux’ camping, or just do some fun arts and crafts projects with the kids.  Too often we forget that we have a giant square behind our homes that is rarely used to its maximum potential.  Use your imagination and have some fun!

Bonus: If your backyard camping trip starts to suck just like your regular camping trips you’re just a few feet away from A/C and a soft bed.

Bonus Alternative:

Some other fun ideas to try in your home or in the backyard include hosting a backyard movie night, baking holiday-themed treats, have a backyard picnic, bust out the instruments and have a jam session, or do a fun family game night!

Your creativity is unlimited so while this year’s Independence Day will be different, we can still have fun with the people we love and pay tribute to the country that is truly in this together (sorry, it just came out).

Happy 4th of July America!
