Mariah Carey explains why she became the queen of spreading Christmas cheer

Mariah Carey explains why she became the queen of spreading Christmas cheer

RUVEN AFANADOR for ElleMariah Carey is the undisputed Queen of Christmas, and there’s a reason she takes the holiday so seriously every year.

In a new cover story for Elle magazine, Mariah explains that her love of Christmas stems from not always experiencing cheerful holidays growing up.

“I think it’s just that longing that I had as a child, that I always wanted things to be perfect for the holidays. And they never were,” she tells the mag. “It was always somebody ruining the moment, always these dysfunctional family members who came around and foiled everything.”

She adds, “And so I just made a pact with myself that I wasn’t going to allow that to happen anymore. After I kind of emerged from my first relationship-slash-marriage, I created the Christmases that I wanted to have.”

This year’s holiday will look a little different due to COVID-19. Mariah says she’ll probably have to skip her usual visit to the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City, but she’ll still bring cheer to others with her Apple TV+ special, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, on December 4.

“I hope people feel festive when they watch this special, and I hope it helps in some way,” she says. “Just like any really good Christmas movie or song can lift your spirits, that was the goal here.”

To further get in the holiday spirit, Mariah played a holiday edition of Song Association with Elle, where she sings classics including sings "Joy to the World" and "Walking in a Winter Wonderland."

Gigi Hadid shares never-before-scene photos of her pregnancy

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for People.comGigi Hadid is thinking back to her eventful summer when she and boyfriend Zayn Malik were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their little girl.

While the parents have yet to reveal their newborn's name, the supermodel shared several intimate photos of her pregnancy late Monday night.

The photos were taken the month before her daughter's September arrival, with Hadid explaining in the caption, "August, waiting for our girl."

The three photos show the 25-year-old posing in a form-fitting maxi dress so she could fully show off her growing baby bump.

The sweetest photo, however, includes Malik resting his head on Gigi's stomach and glancing at her with an expression full of love.

In that same photo, the model is grinning at the "Pillowtalk" singer with an equally loving expression.

Hadid and Malik, 27, welcomed their little one in the middle of September with the former One Direction member gushing on Twitter, "The love i feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding.Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, & thankful for the life we will have together."

Hadid followed up with her own tribute, sharing a few hours later a black and white photo of her little one holding onto her father's fingers.

"Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love," she expressed.

The two confirmed their pregnancy in April.

Billie Eilish reflects on her lofty 2020 goals:

Billie Eilish reflects on her lofty 2020 goals: "Oh my god, that did not age well!"

ABC/Rick RowellBillie Eilish admits that, much like everyone else, 2020 didn't go exactly as planned.

Appearing for her fourth-annual Vanity Fair interview, the "bad guy" singer hilariously reacted to watching her past self make lofty 2020 predictions and giggled, "Oh my god, that did not age well!"

Her music career was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which included the cancellation of her sold out tour.

Despite 2020 throwing her plans out the window, the 18-year-old adamantly declared she is not complaining because she's well aware of how fortunate she is.

"I am very, very lucky," Eilish expressed.  "For a lot of people, [this year] was literal hell."

In 2019, the then 17-year-old singer expressed she wanted to purchase a Lamborghini, a 2020 goal that she deliberately left unfulfilled.

"It's not like I couldn't have [bought one,] it's just that there were so many other things that were so much more important," said Eilish.  "There's more people to give that money to.  There are way, way more -- and I cannot stress it enough -- way more important things going on than a f****** Lamborghini."

When asked about what other changes 2020 brought, the Grammy winner said she welcomed a "son," an adorable rescue puppy named Shark.

Eilish also got her first tattoo, a big check off her bucket list, and cheekily told fans while wagging a finger, "But you won’t ever see it!"

Overall, the singer is thankful for what 2020 taught her because it challenged her to really consider who she truly is and discover what's important to her.

"I will say I have made and created things that I don't think I ever would have created without this period of time," said Eilish.  "I'm grateful for what it's given me."

Report: Kelly Clarkson wins primary custody, Brandon Blackstock seeks millions in financial support

Report: Kelly Clarkson wins primary custody, Brandon Blackstock seeks millions in financial support

David Crotty/Patrick McMullan via Getty ImagesAccording to a Monday report from People, a decision was made in Kelly Clarkson's divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

The "Piece by Piece" singer, 38, who filed for divorce in June, was awarded primary custody of the two children she shares with Blackstock, six-year-old River Rose and four-year-old Remington Alexander.

Despite the ruling, a source tells People that Blackstock, 43, is asking for more than $5.2 million a year in financial support.

"Brandon's been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees," the source claims. "Kelly's offered to pay for all the kids' expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month."

In addition, Blackstock allegedly requested "$2M for attorney fees when he's the one driving up the cost of the divorce with seven attorneys just representing him alone," the source adds.

Despite the financial requests, Clarkson is reportedly "pleased" with the judge's ruling.

"As Kelly has said, her first priority in all of this is to take care of the kids and all the hearts that are involved in this divorce," another source close to the singer told People. "It's been a hard time for everyone, but Kelly's pleased with the court's ruling regarding custody."

"Divorce is hard and it gets tense for most couples going through it," the anonymous tipster added. "In this case, she had to fight for [her children] since Brandon and his attorneys were making unreasonable requests."

The requests included splitting the children's residence between their primary residence in Los Angeles and his home in Montana, per the source.

Representatives of the former couple, who wed in 2013, have not responded to requests for comment.

'The Disney Holiday Singalong' brings stars and Broadway talent together for heartwarming show of unity

'The Disney Holiday Singalong' brings stars and Broadway talent together for heartwarming show of unity

ABCABC kicked off the holiday season with a dazzling display of star power for The Disney Holiday Singalong.  Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who was seated comfortably in a giant leather chair in front of a roaring fire, Monday night's festivities united recording artists, actors, celebrities and Broadway talent alike to remind everyone watching at home that, even though Christmas will look different this year, the holiday spirit remains unchanged.

Monday night's message also centered on the importance of family and kindness, as demonstrated by singers teaming with their siblings or young children for their performances.

Highlights of the night included performances from Chloe x HalleBTSPink and her nine-year-old daughter WillowAdam LambertLeslie Odom Jr. and many others that helped ring in the holiday season.

Kicking off the official singalong was Hollywood power couple Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, who attempted a vocal warmup for the audience watching at home that, unfortunately, went awry.  The camera shattered when the outspoken diva went rogue with the high notes.

R&B duo Chloe x Halle took over with their ultra-harmonized rendition of "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" from Disney's Frozen. The sisters joined hands as they danced around a winter wonderland, highlighted by white Christmas trees and snow flurries gently swirling around them.

Another memorable performance came all the way from South Korea, when BTS teamed up with the official star of the Christmas season, Santa Claus himself, to help them perform "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town." The K-pop group had a blast channeling the joy and wonder of the holidays by surrounding themselves with shiny presents and twinkling lights.  The band also shared several hearty laughs throughout the song.

With Santa busy in South Korea, Pink invited her young daughter Willow to help deliver a magical and heartwarming rendition of "The Christmas Song."  Pink's eyes filled with pride as her daughter showed off her impressive vocal talents and, at the end, happily waved over her three-year-old son, Jameson, to wave goodbye to the audience and close out their family performance.

Leslie Odom Jr. married the Halloween and Christmas spirits when tackling "What's This" from The Nightmare before Christmas.  His Broadway chops shined and made the ultra-energetic song all the more entertaining as the Hamilton star's voice crackled and popped with excitement, allowing him to effortlessly channel the animated Jack Skellington.

While some performers chose to highlight the jubilation of Christmas, others like Adam Lambert and Andrea Bocelli embodied the warmth of the holiday season with their intimate performances of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Silent Night," respectively.

The most emotional performance, however, came from Broadway itself, when those who are part of Disney's impressive array of musicals came together in a show of unity to deliver an inspiring and modified version of Frozen's "Let It Go."  The group took over the New Amsterdam Theatre, located in the heart of Times Square, to promise Broadway's glorious return and encourage the audience to "fill this world with light and love."

Also helping to ring the Christmas cheer was perennial holiday favorite Michael Bublé performing "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas," Scandal star Kerry Washington, who belted out "Joy to the World" from her illuminated gazebo, Ciara and her children Sienna and Future rocking out to "Rocking around the Christmas Tree," Derek and Julianne Hough dancing up a storm to some holiday classics, and Katy Perry performing a medley of "Cozy Little Christmas" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

Seacrest closed out the celebration by asking the audience to support Feed America, saying those who wish to donate can do so by visiting disney.com/feedthelove.

Despite "ily" success, Surf Mesa doesn't think his future will involve remixing more oldies

Elizabeth MirandaSurf Mesa has scored a global hit with "ily (i love you baby)," a remix of legendary singer Frankie Valli's 1967 solo hit "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."  So what will he do for an encore?  Well, he says his next move probably isn't going to involve finding some other 50-year-old hit and turning it into a dance track.

"That's the question that's been raised before: do I want to keep making these older songs into a newer rendition?" he tells ABC Audio. "I wouldn't say I'd, like, go back...I don't know a lot of other songs by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, honestly."

"I'm kinda like a crate-digger now where I'm like diving into what's up and coming and new in the dance scene," says the producer, born Powell Aguirre.

"I started making music for the love of dance music, and so I think right now, my goal is to just keep pushing newer ideas and what's current and kind of be like respected in the world of, like, other producers and artists that are making stuff," he explains.

"I don't want to lose sight of the reason I started and that's to make this dance music, [which is] the reason I first downloaded the software to make music," Surf notes.

Surf already has the respect of at least one major dance music superstar: Marshmello, who tapped Surf to remix "Be Kind," his song with Halsey.

The virtual concert, which took place Friday, broke online livestream records with over five million views globally.

“We are estimating over 5 million viewers based on more than one person watching each stream, but the real number may be closer to 8 or 9 million,” Ben Mawson, from Dua’s management TaP Music, said in a statement. “I expect a lot of families watched together. It was a massive undertaking but I am so proud that once again Dua has shown herself to be the one of the biggest pop stars in the world.”

Due to high demand, Studio 2054 will continue to be available for streaming until Sunday, December 6 at 11:59 p.m. on Live-Now.com, with tickets priced at $10.

The event, which showcased Dua’s Grammy-nominated Future Nostalgia album in a highly-choreographed COVID-safe production, was packed with exciting guest stars, including Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Kylie Minogue and more.

According to LIVENow Director Marc Watson, the event could be a sign of how the music industry will continue to operate post-pandemic.

“Studio 2054 shows that artists can create unique live events, designed to experience at home, that delight their fans and attract major sponsors,” he says in a statement. “This is not easy but we have proved if you get the creative format and marketing right, there is significant and growing consumer demand around the world for streamed live music events.”
